How to read the weight number
Personal weight counts everything you carry, minus your boots (worn) and your water. It still counts the clothing you'll wear on day one, so your real pack weight will run 3–4 lb lighter than the number shown. Add the ~11 lb of team food and gear you receive at the start, plus 3.3 lb of water, for your on-trail carry.
Under 22 lb personal: excellent, real margin
22–28 lb: normal and fine
28–33 lb: legal but you'll feel every hill
Over 33 lb: cut something before they weigh you
